I've having a lot of fun with long shutter speeds. What I did is set it for a 30 sec exposure and waved about my mobile phone torch. Try it - its fun! There are a couple of result on here, but many more at my Flickr account.

Finally, after months of waiting, I got round to getting myself a proper camera. It was a close call between the Canon and the Nikon D40, but after trying them out I definitely preferred the Canon. I've put a couple of experimental shots up here, but I'm waiting for the weather to improve before I really start putting it through its paces.

Ubuntu Vs Vista

Tue Nov 7, 2006, 12:23 PM
  • Mood: Pity
  • Listening to: Squarepusher
  • Reading: Java: How to Program (6th Ed)
  • Watching: Time Trumpet
  • Playing: Chess
  • Eating: Tesco's 8p Noodles
  • Drinking: Champagne
Just an update about OS's etc...

I am now currently running Ubuntu and Vista dual boot.

Plus Points of Each

Ubuntu will run for years without need to restart - never crashes.
Its completely free.
It has some fantastic applications.
It gives you a smug sense of satisfaction every time a Windows user complains.
No spyware/viruses. At all.
Looks nice. (see desktop screenshot)

Vista is graphically impressive, especially Aero.
The feature which lets you increase RAM using removable storage is super.
Its pretty secure - it really doesn't do anything without your permission.
The sidebar looks great.

Negative Points of Each

Ubuntu can be complicated if things go wrong - some command-line knowledge might be needed.
Has difficulty with some file formats.
Some programs only work for Windows.

Vista is expensive, considering what your paying for.
Its tight grasp on security can be infuriating - having to grant it permission every time you rename or delete a file.
Not all that customizable.
